A primate fanatic who was the Director of the Mountain Gorilla Project in Rwanda. He has built his own camp at Mahale on the Tanzanian shore of Lake Tanganyika where the nearby tropical rainforest is home to the largest group of free-living chimpanzees in the world. He can combine Mahale with time spent in his small tented camp in Katavi National Park. Purcell flies his clients from place to place in his own aircraft.
His seasons at Mahale are June to October and mid-December to mid-February.
